Rope Climbing
We offer free classes teaching you how to get on our roped walls! Our Top Rope class teaches the basic skills needed to rope climb with a partner in our gym: properly fitting your harness, climbing commands, safety checks, and belaying (managing the rope while your partner is climbing to catch them if they were to fall) After this class we can also show you around our bouldering section (ropeless climbing where you fall onto a padded mat), give you a brief instruction on proper falling technique, and show you how to safely use the Auto Belays. After successfully completing this class, you will be able to climb independently anywhere in the gym!
This class is a requirement if you are new to rope climbing.
This class is not a requirement if you are just interested in bouldering (climbing without ropes), or auto belays.
If you already know how to properly belay, you may test out with our staff!
Cost: Free after the purchase of a day pass and climbing gear! Also included w/ membership
Duration: 20 min - 25 min (for a 2 person top roping class)
+5-10 min. for gym tour, bouldering safety briefing, and auto belays
Prerequisites: None
Age requirement to belay: 16 years of age and older
Age requirement to climb: None, but must properly fit into harness
Includes: Rental equipment, day pass, tour, boulder briefing, auto belay instruction, and belay class.
*We always have staff on hand to teach our belay classes, with no scheduling ahead of time required to learn! Classes may not be readily available on busier days with birthday parties and events. Occasionally, there is a wait list on our busier days but we can get you started bouldering in the meantime!
Auto Belays
Auto Belays are an automatic belay system that replaces the need for a partner to belay you! We have 6 Auto Belays at our gym set with plenty of climbs for all ages and skill levels! To use the auto belays, staff will give you a demo, a safety briefing, and test you out to make sure that you are able to use the system independently!
Please do not attempt to use the auto belay system without proper instruction from our staff!
Cost: Day Pass / First Timer’s Deal / Free for members
Duration: Safety briefing and tour lasts approximately 10-15 minutes
Prerequisites: None
Weight Restrictions: Minimum-22 lbs. / Maximum- 309 lbs. (via manufacturer)
Bouldering
Bouldering is another discipline of climbing which does not require a rope, harness, or a partner. In the indoor setting, climbs for bouldering generally reach up to about 15 feet, and the entire floor is padded for falls. If it’s your first time here at Active Climbing, all you’ll need is a pair of climbing shoes (which we have available as rentals!), some quick instruction for safe falling techniques, and you’re ready to climb! Our bouldering routes are designed for climbers of all ages and every skill level. Bouldering is a great way for newcomers to get familiar with the sport, make some friends, and have a great time!
A bouldering safety briefing is included with your day pass.

$19 for all others
$5 rental fee for climbing shoes, if needed

Includes: Your first visit to Active climbing will include a tour of the facility and an overview of our bouldering grading system and bouldering safety guidelines.

When bouldering at Active Climbing, please keep these tips in mind to stay safe and have fun:
Use strength, balance, and technique along with problem solving when bouldering
Plan ahead before you climb
Do not climb or run underneath someone who is on the wall
Use proper falling technique
Be mindful of those climbing around you
Warm up and cool down with every bouldering session
Challenge yourself and have fun!
